An essential accessory for the autumn/winter season, the scarf is a staple in every wardrobe , for both men and women. Its variety of sizes, colors, materials, and patterns makes it not only useful for protecting you from the cold , like a winter sweater , but also a stylish addition that enhances your outfit. And that’s not all; this key piece of winter also follows the latest fashion trends. Not sure how to wear your scarf to truly elevate your look? Here are several ideas for tying your scarf this winter.

A scarf is that practical accessory that can liven up your outfits and complete them. A thin silk scarf adds an elegant touch, while a large wool scarf creates a cozy feeling . If you have a neutral-colored coat, a colorful cashmere scarf will energize your look . Conversely, if your coat is striking, it’s best to opt for a simple scarf that will soften your style. Finally, patterned scarves add a touch of whimsy , which is especially welcome in winter. And to find out which color suits you best when choosing your scarf, read our article on color analysis .
A scarf is generally considered long when its length approaches 2 meters. Long and wide scarves are thus very similar to shawls. There are countless ways to wear a scarf. Depending on its size and thickness, some knots are more suitable than others. Scarves are an accessory worn by both men and women, but the way they are tied isn’t necessarily the same. Much simpler in men’s wardrobes, they can be more sophisticated and complex in women’s , making them a fashion element in their own right. So, how do you tie a scarf when you’re a woman?

1. The simple scarf knot
This knotting method works with all scarves . To do it, place the scarf around your neck, letting the ends hang down in front, then cross them and tie them together in the center. For a sophisticated look, choose a silk scarf.
2. The simple scarf loop and its variations
Probably the simplest way to tie it is to simply wrap the fabric once around your neck and leave the two ends hanging down in front. Depending on the length, you can add an extra wrap. To do this, place the fabric at the nape of your neck, making sure the ends in front aren’t at the same height (the shorter end should be at chest level). Then, take the longer end and wrap it twice around your neck.
A slight variation : you can also choose to put one end in your back or even both! To do this, place the scarf around your neck and throw one end over the opposite shoulder, and possibly do the same with the other end.
3. The simple knotted scarf loop
This way of wearing a scarf involves performing the steps of the simple loop . Then, instead of letting the ends hang down, tie them together .
4. The scarf tie loop
As an alternative to a simple knotted loop, you can make a tie loop . The starting point is to create a simple loop, leaving one end longer than the other. Next, bring the longer end behind the shorter end and then pass it over to create a loop. Pass this longer end through the loop to form a knot, which you will then tighten and pull up, just like with a tie!
5. The Parisian scarf knot
Quick and easy , the Parisian knot is used in both men’s and women’s fashion. To tie it, simply fold the ribbon in half lengthwise, place it around your neck, and pass the ends through the loop. This creates a simple and elegant style .
6. The infinity scarf knot
This knot is best tied with a thin scarf or shawl . To tie it, you need to knot two opposite corners together to create a circle and pass the circle twice around your neck with the knot at the back.
7. The figure-eight scarf knot
To tie this unique knot, simply fold the scarf in half and place it around the nape of your neck. Then, take the top end and insert it into the loop, twist the loop to make a second pass, and then pass the bottom end through this second pass. While more complex, this knot adds a fashionable touch to your look !
8. The pretzel scarf knot
The pretzel knot is similar to the figure-eight knot we just saw. You fold the fabric in half and place it around the back of your neck, putting the top end through the loop, then take the bottom end of the scarf and pass it directly over the loop and through the loop.
9. Lightweight, square scarves
For lightweight, square scarves, you can fold your fabric into a diamond shape and wrap it around your neck with the points in front. This knot also works very well with a scarf.
10. The case of wide scarves and shawls
One of the great advantages of winter is being able to wrap yourself in a big, wide, warm wool scarf. You can spread the scarf out, wrap it evenly around both shoulders, leave one end draped over your opposite hip, and throw the other end over the opposite shoulder. This technique is ideal for wearing your scarf or shawl over a light jacket or coat .
Variation  : Instead of leaving one end at the hip, you can secure it at the opposite shoulder, under the scarf, and then drape the remaining end over the other shoulder. You can also use it to dress up a dress with a wide but lighter silk stole.
